Our History
In 1936 the Victorian Women’s Amateur Lacrosse Association was formed. The Association comprised 2 teams, Williamstown and the YWCA … and so the story begins. Following the extended break of lacrosse in Victoria due to WWII, it was Mrs Joy Parker (WWLC) who provided the impetus to re-establish the game of women's lacrosse in Victoria with the final push coming from Mal Taylor of the Williamstown Lacrosse Club. Three clubs were formed, Williamstown (2 teams), Footscray and Malvern. In 1962, under the guidance of Mrs Joy Parker, the Australian Women's Lacrosse Council (AWLC) was formed. Mrs Parker became the inaugural President with Mrs Titter Secretary and Mrs L Rolley (WWLC) Treasurer. Mr and Mrs Titter donated the 'Fearon Cup' as the perpetual trophy for the competition between Victorian clubs. The trophy was named after Captain James Fearon of Williamstown, who was renowned as a staunch supporter of lacrosse.
